Join AgX for an introduction to direct animation, where participants will learn techniques for making cameraless 16mm films by painting, drawing, or scratching directly onto film. Each participant will be working independently with provided materials over light boxes. At the end of the workshop, the newly created film strips will be projected for the group to enjoy!
WHAT’S PROVIDED: All materials will be provided. AgX will be supplying clear, black, and used film strips, permanent markers, and some craft knives and stickers. Loops will be edited with AgX tape splicers at the workshop.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Janet Benn is an animation artist who began by studying experimental film, then trained in traditional animation methods. She worked on projects such as "Beavis and Butt-Head" and the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" in New York. However, her most rewarding work was done with The Hubley Studio, after studying with John and Faith Hubley at Yale Graduate School of Art. For several years Janet also taught animation production to college students and adults. Now, as a member of the Boston-based AgX Film Collective, Janet Benn is working on new projects and teaching experimental filmmaking at their facility in Waltham, MA.
